About Us
Carissa Koopmann, a fifth generation Bay Area cattle rancher purchased her first three purebred females in 2001. Carissa married Vic Rivers in 2013 and began Rivers Red Angus a registered Red Angus cow/calf seedstock operation. Rivers Red Angus is a progressive, sustainable business providing conservation grazing services on leased and owned private ranches in Alameda, Contra Costa and Siskiyou Counties.
Growing up Carissa experienced the proven benefits of utilizing Red Angus in crossbreeding programs. Seeing how the females sired by Red Angus bulls have proven themselves time and again through performance, longevity, unbeatable maternal traits coupled with docility, she knew that Red Angus was where her focus would be.
We set out to build a premier set of cows. Through strict culling practices focused on real world traits like fleshing ability, soundness, calving ease and fertility we have developed females that not only fit but excel in the rugged Mount Diablo foothills and diverse topography of California Rangelands.
We manage our grazing program to fit the environment and achieve common objectives critical to long term animal health and a successful conservation program. We manage our operation in a manner that is socially, economically and environmentally feasible to benefit both short and long term goals for the rangelands and our operation. We value opportunities to work with the public through ranch tours and educational presentations.
Together with our two children; Bray Lynn (5) and Jake (2) we hope to continue the family operation by offering dependable genetics for generations to come.
